Hi, I know cell is the rage for carp fishing at the moment, and when I smell it I tend to get a hint of coconut and would love to attempt to make a "mimic" of it and see what I would produce, my questions is do any of you know any of the ingredients in cell or anything that remotely smells like cell?- Thanks in advance! :)

You could use a cell additive with your own base mix!

Catcherbaits do an alternative "cellmate"

My opinion?. There are better baits out there

Its got nothing to do with smell, get away from what bait smells like.

Im not sure having not looked into it too much but im sure that Cell is based around a single Cell Yeast Protein, Hence its name, this being the idea of its actual foundation, the attractors then built in and then of course the always required angler attractor.... in this instance Coconut.

If im anywhere near the idea of the foundation is very good, not sure about the other attractors etc but the idea would be there.

Many think they have copied Cell and most of them think they have by making a similar coloured bait and then add coconut..... it does not work like that!

If you want Cell buy Cell, if you want a bait like Celll then you need to find out its ingredients, then work out how its put together.

I was under the impression the coconut smell was just a mask to divert other bait makers away from the real content of the cell.

You say like you say to check ingredients of Cell to see if Cell is Cell, what I'm getting at is there are a few companies out there that sell Cell, but would I be right in saying that some companies roll there own Cell basemix and call it Cell, but its not the original quality Cell that say Mainline sell. So going in blind and wanting to buy Cell, what do you recommend people look for from companies that advertise Cell as a bait they sell.
You never know, the proper ingredients might be horse meat.

Of coarse, but really, when buying from an internet site, how do you know what the ingredients are that are in them.

You have to go on reputation and trust. If it's sold as Mainline Cell then that's what it should be, if you've used it direct from Mainline then you'll know what it should look and smell like anyway. There were instances a few years back when certain companies got a bad reputation as they bait they sold as such and such looked different, it doesn't take long for word to get around and you just wouldn't use that company again would you.

If you're talking about a company that sells something of their own making altogether which claims to be very similiar to another well known bait then personally I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. Firstly I think it's bad business to feel the need to do that anyway but other than that you'll be buying something that has been made to look and smell like the original, no way in this world could they know the full and proper ingredient list.

I've caught a few on "cellmate". Outdone my old man 3-1 on the stuff and he was using "pwopa" cell

On a side note, at this stage of your angling I wouldn't worry about baitmaking. There are plenty of good baits out there for £6.

I know a water that the owner comes round with a big bag of boilies and throws them all round the lake. He sells these in his shop on the fishery. Apparently he has a deal with a new bait company who he is trying to help out. He tells all the anglers that if they catch a fish ring him up and he will come down and take the pictures and witness the weigh in. I bet a penny to a pinch of shit that whatever you caught it on goes down to this new bait.
