An "Otter Holt" has been built in my favourite swim on my local river. This swim holds alot of barbel... so as the tittle says... is this the end?

Does it have residents? If not maybe it could get "washed away by floods" or something?

the big problem is that for every person who wants to see barbel on our river systems
an awful lot more people want to see otters!
its a rock and hard place but im guessing even the true conservationists would 100% encourage the otters as they are a natural predator of english rivers
they would surely only worry about rising otter populations when fish stocks got too low to feed all the otters
the angler wouldnt get a thought and the fact that otters kill for the sake is swamped up by the fact that in nature nothing is wasted

Is that a fact Dom, that Otters kill for the sake of killing? I always thought they only killed to eat???

That water, when in flood, just sweeps everything downstream in splinters... absolutely devastating spate bores... terrible...

If there is not enough rain for floods I am sure some local teenage vandals might turn up and damage it beyond repair.............

Mother nature's given it a damn good beating, with half of it washed away by the looks of it. Apparently it's a speculative thing - just on the off chance an otter swam past - that said, you do not need a license to release otters and no one has a clue who is releasing, where and how many!

The weather has been atrocious in that area Rob, especially in that swim. just the way of the world and all that but it's a right little wind tunnel there
