This could loosley be called a "carp-water" but stocks are low and tench the predominant species. I wrote an article about the place in Carp Fisher around 1991 if anyone has an old mag called "A Musical Interlude"
It is also a magnet for the world and his Uncle on a hot summers day and has always had a infamous reputation and almost impossible to bailiff or control. A young guy playing the fool tragically killed his girlfriends three kids a couple of years ago by driving his car over a 20' cliff into the lake. He was driving with his foot out of the car door messing about and he had no licence or insurance. He got a prison sentence. He and his girlfriend in the car escaped alive... the kids 3 to 7 all drowned.
I fished it years ago and dead bodies were discovered there almost every month.... My friend stumbled over the dead half naked body of a woman in the nearby field on a pike session once. Suicides were common mainly from the nearby mental hospital (which Maggie closed down years ago) and also from the nearby town.
It's a macabre place and spooky at night... even for you Kirky.
The carp go to about thirty something but motorbikes revellers and picknicker/sun seekers/swimmers make it a nightmare to fish.
In fact I would'nt bother to fish except maybe in winter.

Yeah it's always been like that.
I gave old Arthur the bailiff a bottle of Scotch one Christmas and he let me fish it in the then Close season as long as I was on at dusk and off just after first light. Quiet then....but I only had tench and a ghostly experience.
Some unknown leviathans to be had I reckon for anyone willing to take their life in their hands and fish it in the warmer months. 8O
It is 60' deep in places and was dug around 100 years ago.
Walker and co fished it in the 50's and 60's and no doubt stocked it with carp too so it has a great pedigree.
Have you got a link to this story Alan.

There are a small number of carp (approx 15), in there but nothing above 23lb now with the majority just low to mid doubles. There was a low 30 plus in there but this fish was found dead in the margins last month - probably old age. :(

To put it in perspective Kirky, i live 5 mins away from the Blue Lagoon and i would rather fish a swimming pool!

Very smart the boys in blue eh?
I was moored on the river once near a spot where a woman commited suicide and the police team were searching UPSTREAM for the body until I pointed out that it would drift DOWNSTREAM.
You could'nt make it up.
Almost as smart as the person who dumped the body....he might just as well have left it in a layby on the A1 or outside Asda and saved the trouble of barrowing it half a mile over the field.
Why do people think lakes are bottomless and just like in the movies it will sink out of sight after tipping the lot over the edge?
If the person who dumped it is that thick they will be caught soon...well....maybe if they get some smarter detectives on the case.

EDIT: My guess as to motive would be drug related going by the few facts of the case. I shouldn't think it will be long before they find out.

I thought the same....the body had been decapitated - of course it was suspicious he hardly chopped his own head of and wraped his corpse up himself did he - prize for stating the bloody obvious goes to the copper who made that statement.
